New Solution Integrates Timing Controller, Power Management and LED Driver onto a Single Chip, Reducing Bill of Materials and Footprint in Netbooks, Tablet PCs and Notebooks
SAN JOSE, Calif., September 9, 2010 – Integrated Device Technology, Inc. (IDT®; NASDAQ: IDTI), the Analog and Digital Company delivering essential mixed-signal semiconductor solutions, today announced the industry’s first single-chip power management solution for thin film transistor (TFT) Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) panels, such as those used in netbooks, Tablet PCs and notebooks. The new solution from IDT integrates a full-function low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) timing controller with fully integrated power management, and a four-channel LED driver for LED backlighting.
By integrating all of these functions onto a single chip, the IDT VDAP1000 saves power and board space, giving system architects increased design flexibility and reducing bill of materials. In addition, the IDT VDAP1000 also can reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI) by enabling spread spectrum technology, improving signal integrity and system performance.
“This type of device will revolutionize tablet, netbook and notebook panels going forward. And, IDT is the only company offering this type of system integration, which includes complete power management, in a single-chip solution for these smaller TFT LCD panels. This integration of the IDT PowerSmart™ technology provides designers with increased flexibility by freeing up valuable board space,” said Ji Park, vice president and general manager of the IDT Video and Display Operation (VDO). “By combining programmable smart power management functionality with the core silicon technologies that we are known for, such as timing controllers, IDT provides an integrated system-level approach to reducing cost and board space.”
IDT is also introducing the VDAP1001, which includes all of the same features as the VDAP1000 but supports the industrial temperature range.
“We fully appreciate the technological advancement of the IDT VDAP1000 and believe it is ideal compliment for our displays,” said Chia-Hua Yu, director of the Advanced Technology Division at HannStar Display Corporation. “Because of its integration, the VDAP1000 enables us to provide our customers with greater design flexibility and bill of materials savings.”
